SUMMARY:The Wright Brothers: History on a Knife Edge
DESCRIPTION:This presentation revisits the story of the Wright brothers\, not as an inevitable march of progress\, but as a fragile\, human chain of events that nearly broke. \nFar from wealthy geniuses or showmen\, Wilbur and Orville Wright were ordinary Midwesterners shaped by an unusual family culture\, shared discipline and a relentless focus on problem-solving. Explore the influences that made flight possible and the critical role of Huffman Prairie\, OH in creating sustained flight. \nAlong the way\, examine how close the world came to missing powered aviation entirely\, and why history so often hangs on surprisingly narrow edges. Another great story to celebrate America 250!! \n  \n Michael Temple is a long-time digital marketing consultant and entrepreneur\, but at heart he is a student of history – particularly the moments when the future balances on ordinary people making uncommon choices. \nWhile rooted in Ohio\, his historical interests are wide-ranging with a special fascination for overlooked turning points that quietly reshaped the world. He enjoys walking in old cities seeing first-hand how geography\, culture and circumstances influence the course of human events. \nHis interest in the Wright brothers grew from this broader curiosity about fragile outcomes in history: how progress is rarely inevitable\, and how persistence\, discipline and careful thinking often matter more than fame or fortune.

SUMMARY:Annual Meeting 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission welcomes Caitlyn Clark\, author of “From the Treaty City to the Western Sea: Lewis & Clark in Greenville\, OH”\, as its 2023 Annual Meeting guest speaker \nCait hails from the Garst Museum of the Darke County Historical Society in Greenville\, OH. She has been an ardent student of Lewis & Clark for the past fourteen years\, having worked at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello while attending the University of Virginia.  \nShe has driven the Lewis & Clark Trail multiple times—from Pittsburgh\, PA to Astoria\, OR—and attended the Eastern Trail Extension ceremony in 2019. Cait also traces her family back to William Clark\, giving her a personal interest in telling the stories of the Lewis & Clark expedition\, and the lives of the explorers before and after the expedition concluded. \nMake plans to join us for the 2023 Annual Meeting and learn what the organization has in store for 2024. The event will take place at the Monclova Community Center on Thursday\, Novmber 16th at 6:30 pm. \nCait will have copies of her book available for purchase and be willing to autograph them that night. \n \nFrom the Treaty City to the Western Sea\n\n\n\n The story of Lewis & Clark did not begin or end with their famous friendship. Lewis’ and Clark’s friendship began in Wayne’s Legion\, and their shared experiences in Ohio aided both their expedition and subsequent tenures in public office.

SUMMARY:Annual Meeting 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission’s annual meeting. We’ll gather at 6:30 for refreshments with the meeting and presentation to follow. \nTechnology and Historical Interpretation\n \nJessica Miller is the Director of Creative Services for the MadAveCollective\, an agency that specializes in nonprofit marketing.  \nAdam Hoff\, owner and President of Hoff Consulting Services\, has been a Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission board member for several years and has served as the architect of this website project for the Commission. \nJessica and Adam have combined their talents to create an innovative website for the Commission that permits visitors to walk the Battlefield\, Monument and Fort Miamis sites virtually\, or to use the website at the sites to enhance their experience with additional historical information. Using this site as a prime example\, Jessica and Adam will demonstrate the power of technology in historical interpretation and presentation. While the site is still a work in progress\, it provides a visitor experience beyond that available to the average visitor today. It also provides opportunities for lovers of history that need ambulatory assistance to visit three important historical sites without ever leaving their homes. \nCome and learn how technology can be the future of history.

SUMMARY:Wayne's Traitors: A "Many-Headed Monster" of Conspiracy and Deceit
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation by Julia Wiley\, president of the Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission. \nPlease contact Laura Labadie at ljl50states@gmail.com to request a Zoom invitation to this virtual event. \nWayne’s Traitors: A “Many-Headed Monster” of Conspiracy and Deceit  \nWhen commissioned by President Washington to bring peace to the Ohio Territory in 1792\, General Anthony Wayne thought he knew the risks and dangers he and the Legion would face – travel through harsh wilderness\, hunger\, disease\, and impossible physical conditions\, while in constant conflict with fearsome Native warriors. What he did not envision was the second campaign he would simultaneously wage against traitors embedded in his own forces\, intent on dismembering the new United States from within. The deadly rivalry between General Anthony Wayne and General James Wilkinson is a tale of ambition\, treachery\, and insidious intrigue at the highest levels of military and political power.
